ECC83S – 12AX7S/7025 dual triode tubes (high gain) feature high gain, long sustain and creamy distortion texture. Due to the design, it has a very low noise level and very low microphonics. It has a smooth, warm sound with a bit more midrange. It is also perfect for the V1 and V2, V3 input position of the amplifier.
If we want to compare the 12AX7 and 7025 tubes from the same manufacturer, the difference is like two microphones: they both sound with different characters. The sound of Marshall amplifiers is particularly emphasized in the mid-high range. Therefore, when used with a Stratocaster, it sounds very bright, often with so much high end that it becomes uncontrollable at high gain. Depending on general tastes, ECC83s are suitable for Marshalls, while 7025s are better suited for Fender input stages.
